About the International Association of Book-keepers (IAB)

The IAB is the premier body that oversees professional training in qualifications for business. Established in 1973, the IAB now has 8,000 students and members worldwide.

The IAB qualifications are accredited in England by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) and the regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland and are eligible for government funding in these countries.

The IAB set the International standard for professional book-keepers. The IAB qualifications are designed to prepare you for a career in book-keeping, payroll and financial administration


Duration and Fees
The course takes 3-6 months to complete and you can study either during the daytime (intensive), on two evenings per week or on Saturdays.
Course fees are ₤495 per semester.

Is this course for me?
The IAB Bookkeeping and Accounting qualification is designed for those who aspire to become professional Book-keepers or Financial Administrators. The course is equally suitable to those who have completed their ACCA/CIMA but who lack the practical skills to gain employment. The course will cover basic manual bookkeeping routines concerning documentations and processes related to making and receiving payments. Delegates will also gain an insight into cash and credit transaction, VAT and other manual and computerised routines. At the advanced level delegates will gain knowledge in basic calculations necessary for accounting adjustments and the process related to applying them to the Extended Trial Balance worksheet. They will also gain an insight into procedures necessary to prepare financial statements, credit control and other management accounting reports.

Entry requirements
Prior knowledge of Book-keeping and Accounts is not essential as we will assess each individual student on enrolment and ensure you start at the appropriate level. The course is delivered at three levels: Foundation, Diploma level 2 and Diploma level 3.

There are three grades of membership
Associate – this entitles the use of the designatory letters AIAB
To apply for this grade of membership you must hold one of the following IAB qualifications or equivalent:
 
IAB Level 2 Certificate in Book-keeping (both units)
IAB Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Book-keeping
IAB Level 2 Certificate in Manual Payroll (both units)
IAB Level 2 Certificate in Computerised Payroll
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Book-keeping (both units)
IAB Level 3 Diploma in Computerised Book-keeping
IAB Level 3 Diploma in Small Business Financial Management
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Manual Payroll (both units)
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Computerised Payroll
 
No practical experience is required for this level of membership.
Member – this entitles the use of designatory letters MIAB
To apply for this grade of membership you must hold one of the following IAB qualifications or equivalent:
 
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Book-keeping (both units)
IAB Level 3 Diploma in Computerised Book-keeping

Fellow – this entitles the use of the designatory letters FIAB

To apply for this grade of membership you must hold the following IAB qualifications or equivalent:

IAB Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and Advanced Book-keeping (both units)
  And
IAB Level 3 Diploma in Computerised Book-keeping

Two years appropriate practical book-keeping experience is required.

OR

IAB Level 3 Diploma in Accounting and Advanced Book-keeping (both units)

And two years practical experience one of which must be working with a commercial accounting software package.

Holders of the IAB Level 3 Payroll qualifications or equivalent

Those Associates, Members and Fellows of the IAB who hold IAB Level
3 qualifications in Payroll (or equivalents) may also apply to add the designatory letters MFP or FPF (to those letters that they are already entitled to use) providing they have the necessary work experience.

MFP- To apply for these designatory letters you must hold one of the following IAB qualifications or equivalent and have one year of practical experience.

IAB Level 3 Certificate in Manual Payroll (both Units)
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Computerised Payroll

FPF - To apply for these designatory letters you must hold both of the following IAB qualifications or equivalent and have two years practical experience.

IAB Level 3 Certificate in Manual Payroll (both Units)
  And
IAB Level 3 Certificate in Computerised Payroll

Method of Assessment

We will assess your progress on the course through regular tasks and exercises. You may also take the IAB exams, which are held in June and December each year.
