At the end of the course, these are some of the things you will
be able to do |

replace damaged socket outlets, lighting fittings and other
electrical components |

select suitable cable sizes and fuse/circuit breaker sizes for a
variety of installations |
 |
wire and extend radial and ring main circuits |
 |
wire additional spur socket outlets to existing ring main
circuits |
 |
wire and extend one-way and two-way lighting circuits |
 |
connect circuits to a consumer unit with the correct protective
device |
 |
wire fixed electrical appliances e.g. cooker and immersion
heater circuits |
 |
perform simple inspection procedures on electrical installations |
 |
perform simple testing of electrical circuits using the
appropriate meters |

The emphasis throughout the course is on safe working practices,
and to undertake electrical installations to comply with the IEE
wiring regulations. |

Method of Assessment |
|
|
Throughout the course your practical work will be assessed by
your trainer. You will also take a short multiple-choice test to
check your knowledge of the theoretical parts of the course.
Successful completion of the assessed practical work and the
multiple-choice test will lead to a college certificate and
entry to subsequent courses. |
